This course offers a systematic working through of Jacques Lacan’s oeuvre, from his dissertation on ‘Self-Punishing Paranoia’ (1932) through his conceptions of the ‘Imaginary’ (1930s and 1940s), the ‘Symbolic’ (1950s), and the ‘Real’ (1960s and 1970s). The pedagogy is for academics, artists, and analysts who do not necessarily have a background in Lacanian psychoanalysis. 

Over 7 sessions, we will address the ideal architecture of completed texts, helping you draw readers into the narrative flow and arguments you wish to present. 

There are three major afflictions in writing about art today, in our contemporary, that this workshop will redress.

In this course, we will search for the ways in which art and psychoanalysis illuminate each other - each at work in the gaps that the other leaves empty.
